What is Semaglutide & Tirzepatide?
Semaglutide & Tirzepatide are used as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight management. They are also used to lower blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke in type 2 diabetes patients.
How does Semaglutide work?
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 agonist that works by increasing insulin release, lowering the amount of glucagon released, delaying gastric emptying which stimulates feelings of fullness and reduces appetite. This leads to a decrease in food intake and subsequent weight loss.*
How does Tirzepatide work?
Tirzepatide is a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist indicated as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight management in adults.
Who is Semaglutide or Tirzepatide recommended for?
Adult patients with an initial body mass index (BMI) >30 or greater (obesity) or > 27 (overweight) in the presence of at least one weight-related comorbid condition (e.g., hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, or dyslipidemia). See BMI Calculator below.*
